Charlene Carter, PhD
Psychologist
I am a Clinical Psychologist who loves to work with people. The primary purpose of my work is helping patients become more emotionally comfortable on a daily basis, and thus, freeing them to grow strong and use their talents as they would like. I work with individuals, couples, groups and all ages from young children to older adults.
The work process is collaborative between the patient and me. I gather from the individual/ enough information as I need to understand the problems and the context in which they occur. Then we begin repairing the difficulties together as quickly or as slowly as necessary. I work in a psychodynamic framework as long as needed with the goal of expecting the individual or couple to never have this problem, or set of them, as seriously again. If the patient/s wish to focus on goals after the emotional roadblocks are improved or removed, then together we can do that.
I am a Psychologist licensed to practice with all ages in Wisconsin. My master’s and Ph.D. degrees were earned at Michigan State University. Before that, I was awarded a Bachelor’s degree from Albion College in Michigan.
Currently I also teach Psychiatric Residents who are becoming Psychiatrists how to do psychotherapy at the Medical College of Wisconsin where I am an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry.
I have an ongoing special interest in the areas of life threatening and chronic illness as they impact emotional comfort and functioning. I also enjoy working with those who have problems of anxiety, depression, relationships, and eating disorders.
You may contact me through Wellness West, LLC. If you have questions about me or how I work please do call to get in touch with me. I welcome inquiries.
