Charles Lawler, MSW

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

I draw on my experience and education to address issues such as anxiety, attention deficit, and depression, and the effects they have on clients and their relationships with others. As a Marriage and Family therapist, I work with individuals, couples, families, and children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and a variety of age groups.

My approach is client centered. I begin from an assumption that the client is the ultimate expert on him or herself. I build on my clients’ strengths to assist them in moving in a positive direction. Together we identify issues, resolve concerns, and develop solutions that improve daily functioning.

I look forward to working with you!

Each individual and their story is unique. Because of this, I have an eclectic approach to therapy. This means I pull from different models of therapy depending on what may be best for the client. I draw from solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, motivational interviewing, and treatment based on dialectical behavioral therapy.

Education

I am a graduate of Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and hold a Master’s degree in Art History from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I received an additional Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Campaign in 2000 and, in 2003, I completed post-graduate training at Milwaukee’s Family Therapy Training Institute.
